August ethnic dinner

Fellow RPCV’s,

One & all (actually the first 30 people to RSVP) are invited to Tubac, founded in 1752, ‘where art meets history’, for Saturday, August 16th ‘ethnic dinner’ at the apartment casita of Rich Roth, 2369 East Frontage Road, South Apartment, Tubac on the Spencer Horse Ranch.

Your price of admission to this ‘August ethnic dinner’ is: an ethnic dish or beverage from the country where you served–in addition your favorite beverages. Could this mean a lot of beans and rice??  Food Tag and country of origin of your dish would be cool.

August 16th is a Full Moon along with a partial lunar eclipse–something to howl about. If the night is clear it should be a marvelous view. Bug repellant could be appropriate?? Also the horses are partial to carrots.

Complimentary hatha yoga class (all levels welcome) will be offered from 4:30–5:45 for the first ten people to sign up.

Pot luck dinner is outside and served at 6:30. Car pooling required, sorry– highly encouraged, as there is room for about 15 cars.

Directions from Tucson: take I-10 East to I-19 south–passing by Tohono O’dham Reservation, Desert Diamond Casino, Sahuarita, Green Valley, and then take exit #40 Tubac. At the bottom of the exit ramp take a left turn (it is exactly 1.2 miles from the bottom of the exit ramp to the ranch) under the interstate to East Frontage Road. Take a right turn on East Frontage Road, pass Chavez Siding Road. Turn left at the first driveway after Chavez Siding Road– surrounded by two large pillars with the # 2369 on each pillar & the name ‘Spencer’ with large blue lights on top of the pillars.  A fork in the road appears almost immediately. Turn right (south) to my adobe abode.
Look for the casita with Tibetan prayer flags.

(If you see the Tubac Golf Resort or the Tubac Post Office– you passed the ranch– turn around and go one mile north.)

Peace Corps Fair - Feb. 27

Peace Corps Week is coming! We are partnering with the University of Arizona’s Peace Corps Fellows to bring a fun and informative Peace Corps Fair to the Tucson and southern Arizona community.

Here is the information on the event:

WHEN: Wednesday, February 27, from 4-7 pm. Set up begins as early as 3:00.

WHERE: Main ballroom, Student Union Memorial Center, The University of Arizona, 1303 E University Blvd, Tucson, AZ 85719.

NEEDED: A display representing the country in which you served.

DISPLAY CONTENTS: Photos, mementos, textiles, maps, words in your country languages, music, and anything you can think of that you would like to share. Displays can be created using a box or tri-fold poster board. Laptops with a slide show can also be utilized.

SPACE: Space will be between 4-6 feet by 3 feet.

Displays don’t have to be a time consuming thing - I’d like to stress that this is somewhat of a spontaneous, easy, and fun event so don’t worry about having an out of world display. Feel free to wear a traditional outfit as well!
